The wedding of Amanda Rule and Robert Hill

HOW THEY MET: Their first date was at the King’s Head pub in Carlisle in August 2008.

PROPOSAL: They started talking about getting married at the Glastonbury Festival in June 2009 and decided to get married over a meal in Carlisle at the end of July 2009.

VENUE: St Hilda’s Church, Westward.

THEME: A colourful blend of cosmopolitan and traditional English.

BRIDE’S OUTFIT: A floorlength layered dress of purple georgette, raw silk and satin, with an emerald brocade bodice embellished in antique gold, amber and lilac jewels, designed by Rajesh Mair of Birmingham.

GROOMSMEN: The groom’s brother Stephen Hill was best man. Ushers were the bride’s brother Mathew Rule, the bride’s brother-in-law Tony Pinkney and the groom’s cousin Mark Beattie. The bride’s sister-in-law Michelle Dibben was usherette. Vinnay Dattani, a friend of the bride’s family was page boy. The best man and ushers wore brown Prince Edward suits with gold ruche from Debenhams and the usherette wore a sea-green sari with antique gold and maroon embellishments, designed by Milans of Leicester. The groom wore a black Prince Edward suit with gold ruche from Greenwoods.

BRIDESMAIDS: The bride’s friends Bina Dattani and Galit Gonen were bridesmaids and wore a sea-green sari with antique gold and maroon embellishments, designed by Milans of Leicester. Kavita Dattani, a friend of the bride’s family was flowergirl and wore a white layered dress from Monsoon.

FLOWERS: The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of Darcey roses with Astrantia and Veronica, by David Austin, Birmingham. The groom’s mother Kathleen Hill prepared all the flowers in church, with a natural country theme.

RECEPTION: Rosley Village Hall, near Wigton for 120 guests.

TABLE SETTINGS: Maroon and burnt orange table covers, with Moroccan lanterns and purple organza curtains with purple and fuscia chair ties.

FAVOURS: Individually decorated and wrapped chocolate cupcakes made by Sean Downes of Fancy That, Penrith.

CATERING: Susan Armstrong, Denton House Hotel, Hesket Newmarket.

CAKE: A surprise homemade two-tier chocolate and lemon wedding cake by the bride’s sister-in-law Michelle Dibben, decorated with orange flowers.

ENTERTAINMENT: DJ and lighting by Toe90 and the Neutron Kid, the bride’s brother Mathew Rule and the bride’s brother-in-law Tony Pinkney.

HONEYMOON: Glastonbury Festival.
