Comets skipper Schramm aiming for better scores round Workington track

Workington Comets captain Chris Schramm hopes that a new engine will help improve his scores around Derwent Park.
Schramm, who has been in consistent form this season, feels he should be scoring in double figures in home matches but so far has fallen short of that mark.
He said for financial reasons he was not able to buy a new engine to suit the Derwent Park track at the start of the season and hopes his fortunes at home will change when his new engine is delivered next week.
He said: “I have struggled a bit round Derwent Park this season because it has been a bit slicker than it was last year and I don’t have the equipment to deal with a big slick track.
“I have ordered a new engine and carburetor which should be with me by next week which hopefully will be able to deal with the home track a lot better.
“When I bought an engine for the King’s Lynn track it worked well so I hope the same happens here at Workington.
“I know when I am on form I can push anybody to the limit but at the moment I haven’t got a bike quick enough to do that.”
Schramm feels this weeks home match with Rye House, which starts at 7pm at Derwent Park, will be an interesting one and feels the Rebels will like riding on the Derwent Park shale.
However, he feels if the Comets repeat their performance against Somerset they should have too much for Rye House, and a three point maximum on Saturday will move them them within two points of the Rockets in fourth place.
He said: “We have just got to make sure we are careful against Rye House because I think they will like the track and I don’t think it means anything that they haven’t been doing too well away from home.”
Schramm has not been a fan of the lack of matches Comets have had recently and feels he needs to be racing regularly to continue to improve.
He added: “I am learning all the time and I think if you do have a break you don’t get the track time that you need.”
