POPULAR community police officer Adrian Braniff is leaving his post in Distington later this month.
PC Braniff has been stationed in the village for the last three-and-a-half years but will now take up a new role within Workington police.
He will be replaced in Distington by PC Steve Boyle, who has been working for Whitehaven police.
At the monthly Distington Parish Council meeting, PC Braniff said it was an honour to have served the community.
He added: “We have achieved so much by working in partnership which has proved to be of great benefit to the local community and something that Distington should be proud of.
“I feel confident that Distington will remain as it is today; a healthy, thriving and proud community for both local people and visitors alike, with a parish council who are committed and forward thinking.”
Councillors thanked PC Braniff for his commitment to the job and wished him well in his new role.
Council chairman John Bowman said: “Adrian has raised people’s awareness of the village particularly over the last 18 months and Distington is now positively recognised nationally.”
PC Doyle will be taking over the role from June 24, but will be working in Distington before the official start date.
