Ex-Carlisle United player Paul Murray set to sign for Hartlepool

Workington Reds pursuit of former Portuguese Premier League midfielder Paul Murray looks all but over after he opened talks with Hartlepool United.
The 33-year-old impressed Pools bosses during a pre-season tour of Holland and Murray could sign on at Victoria Park this week.
Reds chief Darren Edmondson has been courting his former Carlisle team-mate in recent weeks but the lure of professional football could swing the deal in Hartlepool’s favour.
Edmondson said: “You cannot blame a player for wanting to keep his professional career going.
“I have spoken with Paul a lot over the summer but if he feels that he can still do a job in the Football League then good luck to him.
“Paul knows where I am if the deal doesn’t go through. He’s got my number and I’d be happy to talk terms and see what we could offer him.
“Paul has had a great career and he would be a great asset to the club but it doesn’t look like he’ll be here next season unless he has a massive change of heart.”
Murray is due to meet with Pools director of sport Chris Turner along with released Carlisle defender Evan Horwood and former Gretna star Fabian Yantorno this week.
Reds travel to Penrith tonight without a host of key players. Gari Rowntree, Phil McLuckie, David Hewson, Gareth Arnison and Adam Main have all jetted off on holiday.
That will give trialists Matty Tymon, Aaron Taylor, Alex White and Rico Colulo a chance to shine.
Edmondson said he’s been impressed by the quartet, and said: “The lads that have come in have done well.
“I still haven’t made any decision about their future but they will be given every opportunity to earn a deal in the up-coming games.”
Winger Anthony Wright is back in contention to start after missing the Gateshead and Carlisle games with a bruised foot.
