COCKERMOUTH’S flood-hit Main Street continues to get back on track as four more businesses open.
Broughton woman Val Byers, 39, will open Val’s Country Kitchen, a takeaway sandwich shop, on Monday.
She said: “It has always been my dream to run my own shop and especially a sandwich shop because I love baking. I realised that time was getting on and it was my chance to go for it.”
Pet shop RTSN Huddart Supplies Ltd has reopened this week after spending more than six months in Mitchells Retail Mart on Lorton Street.
The shop was officially opened by employee Margaret Burns, who was the last person to leave the shop when it was flooded with five feet of water.
The pet shop has been raising money for Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team and presented members with a £130 cheque.
Co-owner Trish Huddart, 54, said: “We are very pleased to be back and to be able to present the mountain rescue team with the money we have collected as they did so much to help during the floods.”
Norham Coffee House and Julie’s Sandwich Place will also reopen on Monday after being closed for more than eight months.
