SUPERVISORS, administrators and managers from the private and public sectors are putting their heads together to win a career-boosting qualification.
Fortnightly night classes in the BA (Hons) Business Management Top Up course at the University of Cumbria’s Learning Gateway (West) inside Energus have really taken off, explained business lecturer Dr Grace Hurford.
“The students have incredible life experience and they design their own learning contracts,” she explained.
“There’s always a great atmosphere in the class – this is modern learning at its best.
“People from the private and public sectors attend the classes and are able to share different working perspectives whilst working towards the same qualification goal.
“As a lecturer I enjoy the classes enormously.”
Grace, who is based at the university’s Fusehill Street Campus in Carlisle, said the course enabled people from West Cumbria to pursue full-time careers whilst ‘topping up’ their HND and foundation degree qualifications to a full degree.
“It’s a broad-based programme and covers everything from quality assurance and information management to human resources and strategy,” she said.
“It’s a qualification that can boost promotion prospects and give people entry to a Masters of MBA programme.”
She said the Learning Gateway (West) was a superb facility, tailored to 21st century learning.
