Two out of three for Workington Comets

Workington Comets made it two wins out of three from their triple header to move them to an early fourth in the Premier League.
It was a return Comets owner Keith Denham was satisfied with especially as Workington had been on the wrong end of a 63-27 hiding from Ipswich on Thursday.
However, they quickly erased that result from their memories with a superb 46-44 triumph away to Scunthorpe before overcoming a tough riding Bears side on Saturday night.
Comets secured the maximum three points on Saturday to preserve their 100 per cent home record although they weren’t made sure of until the final heat after former Comet Adam Roynon and Gary Havelock threatened to take home a point for the Bears.
Denham said: “There were some points during the night were I was getting frightened that we weren’t going to get the three points.
“I thought it was going to be a piece of cake but it didn’t work out that way.
“We just didn’t seem to get going tonight and I can’t put my finger on why although I do not think it was anything to do with fatigue.”
The Derwent Park crowd were again treated to some exciting racing with plenty of passing on show with Rusty Harrison top scoring as well as being involved in some of the races of the night and Peter Kildemand putting in some impressive scores on both Friday and Saturday.
Denham said: “I am pleased with tonight. At the end of the day all you want is exciting racing and the right result and I think we got both tonight.“Rusty was excellent once again and Peter pulled the match out of the bag for us on Friday.“There was good team spirit in the pits and another decent turnout from the crowd.”Comets fans got an extra treat with the visit of the American Touring Team and along with it came encouraging news from Kenny Ingalls who was in attendance and still recovering from the broken leg he suffered last year.Ingalls said it was possible he could be racing as soon as a week on Friday when the Comets visit Newport. He is due to have the staples in his leg removed on Thursday and is already having plenty of physiotherapy.Denham added: “Kenny is hoping to get on the bike soon and it shouldn’t be long before he is fighting fit.”
