Unemployed penalised for living in wrong postcode

I READ with interest your article on the Moss Bay housing scheme (Times & Star, April 2) which said Thomas Armstrong will be working with Routes to Work, and two unemployed people will be given the chance of work.

While I commend this and am happy for the lucky two people who are chosen, I would like to bring to the attention of Thomas Armstrong that only certain unemployed people qualify for this opportunity.

Routes to Work get a lot of publicity for helping the unemployed but why don’t they help all unemployed people in Allerdale instead of helping people within certain post codes?

A lot of unemployed people are denied the help of Routes to Work as they live in the wrong area.

If people are unemployed and they ask for help then this should be given regardless of where they live.

Surely they should be ensuring people are aware of what is needed to qualify for their help.

I am a parent of someone who was refused help due to living in the wrong part of town.
